Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the Sustainable RIVER program. As part of the application process, you must register with the NSF program at www.nsfreu.org. The website will ask you to create a user account and assign you a unique REU ID. Be sure to take note of the REU ID assigned to you because you will need to provide it on your application to the Sustainable RIVER program. The Sustainable RIVER program is one of the biology REU sites. After you have registered, please complete your application here. Applications for the Sustainable RIVER program are due by Friday, 15 February 2019.

In this application, you will be asked to identify up to five research projects that are of interest to you (see the Research Projects tab for more information on the research projects) and list any courses that you have taken that are relevant to the chosen projects. You will also be asked to provide a personal statement (300-600 words) describing your interest in the Sustainable RIVER program and how it relates to your long-term plans.

Finally, you will also be asked to provide the names of two professional references who will be submitting letters on your behalf. At least one of the references should be a professor or instructor at your college/university. The letters of reference should be sent via email to Sustainability@usd.edu.

Thank you for your interest in the Sustainable RIVER program. The funding for the 2020 program has not been approved yet. Please check back in March 2020.
